Gelcoats, Flowcoats, Pigments, Dyes and Release Agents

We sell polyester gelcoat and flowcoat in white for common repairs. We can also colour gelcoats and flowcoats for you in store, and have a wide range of colours to choose from. GelcoatĀ is used to give theĀ mould a strong, scratch resistant surface, and is applied over your original plug (what you are taking a mould of) with a layer of release agent in between. It comes in a variety of colours, and is applied by brush, roller or with a gun. Gelcoat has no wax in styrene, meaning the side that is exposed to the air will remain tacky, allowing you to then laminate your fibreglass straight onto the gelcoat without having to do standard paint preparation in between. When repairing gelcoat on your boat or caravan, it is recommended to use flowcoat instead of gelcoat. Flowcoat is similar to gelcoat, however it does contain wax in styrene, making it sand-able and tack free when cured. One coat of gelcoat/flowcoat is approximately 8 times thicker than one coat of paint, and is the traditional coating on fibreglass boats. For example, 1kg of flowcoat will cover approximately 1.5 sq/m when applied correctly, compared to 12 sq/m coverage from 1L of paint. We stock a wide range of pigments, dyes and powders to add colour and various effects to resin as well as neutral gelcoat and flowcoat.
